There are plans for a brand new community gritting partnership to be introduced in Whitby to combat the harsh winters.
The partnership would involve local people gritting the paths and keeping them clear of snow and ice.
Whitby Mayor - Robert Dalrymple - says it's a quick way of responding to sudden changes in weather.
Local people will be tasked with ensuring that the paths and roads are maintained when the temperatures drop by clearing snow and gritting them during the winter months.
Robert Dalrymple - Mayor of Whitby - says that full training will be given to those who are interested in joining the group.
