Police and partners in Scarborough have secured a closure order on a property in Briercliffe.
The action comes after multiple reports of persistent antisocial behaviour, disorder and criminal activity at the address.
PC Francesca Diffey of the Scarborough Community Hub worked with Community Safety Officers from North Yorkshire Council and officers from Beyond Housing to present a file of evidence to York Magistrates’ Court who immediately issued a full closure order on the property on 16 July 2026.
Closure orders are legal measures used by police or local councils to quickly shut down properties linked to crime or persistent anti-social behaviour. They prevent people from entering a building, protecting communities and vulnerable people from further harm.
Sergeant Jonathan Dillon of Scarborough Neighbourhood Policing Team, said:
“Closure orders enable police and partners to act collaboratively, ensuring that enforcement is balanced with support for those who have been displaced or affected.
“My thanks go to everyone who has worked to ensure a fast and decisive response in this case to prevent further anti-social behaviour and crime that has a detrimental knock-on effect on the local community.”
Sarah Hall, Director of Housing at Beyond Housing, added:
“We have worked closely with North Yorkshire Police and our partners to address the serious concerns linked to this property. The closure order is a positive step in helping local residents to live peacefully in their homes.
