Scarborough and Whitby MP, Alison Hume, says the ongoing closure of Eastfield medical practice is unacceptable.
The ongoing closure of Eastfield Medical Centre has raised significant concerns among local representatives and residents, particularly regarding its impact on vulnerable and elderly patients in the area.
MP Alison Hume, has expressed her distress over the situation, stating that many constituents have reached out to her, highlighting their difficulties in accessing alternative medical services.
The MP said:
"Many have got in touch with me to say they are unable to travel to the list of alternative surgeries being offered on EMC’s website. This is unacceptable."
Her comments underscore the challenges faced by those who rely on the medical centre for essential healthcare services.
Alison Hume says her efforts to address the situation date back several months when she initially contacted the practice manager seeking a confirmed reopening date. However, her attempts to obtain reassurance were met with silence, prompting her to escalate the matter.
"I have now written again given the matter is of the utmost urgency, I have offered to do whatever I can to help speed-up the reopening process and, if that offer is accepted, will of course do everything within my power."
Furthermore, Ms Hume says she has taken her concerns to higher authorities, including the Humber and North Yorkshire Integrated Care Board and the Minister for Primary Care. She aims to emphasise the critical need for the Eastfield Medical Centre to reopen as swiftly as possible, highlighting the urgency of the matter for those most affected.
