Mountain Rescue Volunteers Clock Over Two Hundred Hours In Busy Week Across The Yorkshire Coast

Mountain rescue volunteers have dedicated over 200 hours to five separate callouts across the region, including search and rescue incidents in Whitby, Driffield, and Pickering.

Mountain rescue volunteers have experienced a demanding week, responding to five separate emergencies across the Yorkshire Coast and surrounding areas.

The team has dedicated over two hundred hours of volunteer time, providing vital support to North Yorkshire Police and the Yorkshire Ambulance Service NHS Trust.

The string of callouts began in Dalby Forest, where the team responded to an injured mountain biker.

A spokesperson for the mountain rescue team detailed the response to the Dalby Forest incident. They said:

"Rescue 28 - Dalby Forest, we responded to a mountain biker that had fallen, the team assessed the biker provided pain relief and immobilised them in a vacmat, then a stretcher carry down to the waiting ambulance for onward transport to hospital."

The volunteers were also called into action in the East Riding, specifically in Driffield. The team noted:

"Rescue 29 - Driffield, Called to support an ambulance crew with the extraction of a patient who had taken a fall."

Search operations formed a significant part of the week's workload. In Ryedale, the team assisted North Yorkshire Police in locating a vulnerable individual, who was subsequently found safe and well.

Another search was launched in Whitby after an elderly visitor went missing. The team described the deployment. They said:

"Search 31 - Whitby, called to assist in the search for an elderly person who had not returned to their hotel. Search teams and search dog slate where deployed. Found safe and well."

The final incident of the busy period took place in the Pickering area, where volunteers were once again required to assist an ambulance crew with the extraction of a patient situated in a difficult location.

Following the demanding week, the mountain rescue team has issued advice for anyone who might find themselves in difficulty in the region's rural areas. They said:

"If you need mountain rescue in an emergency call 999, ask for Mountain Rescue via the police know your location by using what3words and try to keep a phone signal."
