Efforts to make Council owned properties in the East Riding more energy efficient could see photovoltaic roof tiles installed.
497 properties already have the technology and now East Riding Council says it has funding to add the renewable energy source to more of it's homes.
Helen McEgan is working on the project.
In 2023-24 the Council undertook a number of planned energy efficiency works in it's properties including
- Installed 52 Air Source Heat Pumps and topped up the roof insulation to 300mm at a cost of just over £1m.
- Re-roofed and insulated 239 properties at a cost of £1.9m.
- Installed new windows in 568 properties at a cost of £2.3m; and
- Fitted photovoltaic panels to 34 properties as part of the re-roofing programme and to a further 9 properties with an air source heat pump at a cost of £0.308m
Helen McEgan says there are now a large number of council owned houses that have solar panels.
Currently 497 council dwellings have photovoltaic panels or solar thermal fitted and 680 properties are fitted with an Air Source Heat Pump. The latter are predominantly in areas that are off the gas network.
As part of the additional funding that has been committed for reducing carbon emissions the council says it is intended to go back to all those properties that have been re-roofed in the last ten years, that also have electric storage heaters or air source heat pump, and to fit PV panels on the roof.
