The popular Moorsbus service has returned for the 2026 season with an extended timetable, offering residents in the East Riding and Hull expanded opportunities to explore the North York Moors.
The popular Moorsbus service has returned for 2026, offering passengers from the East Riding and Hull the opportunity to enjoy the North York Moors following a highly successful run last year.
Using funding allocated by the Hull and East Yorkshire Combined Authority, the East Riding of Yorkshire Council and Hull City Council have once again committed to delivering the M1 service. This initiative is part of their Local Authority Bus Grant Plans, delivered alongside the Moorsbus Community Interest Company using a double-decker vehicle from East Yorkshire Buses.
Last year, the M1 service saw 2,249 passengers board the bus, which ran every Sunday and Bank Holiday from the beginning of May through to the end of September. Of those passengers, 1,317 journeys originated from Hull and the East Riding.
Due to its overwhelming popularity, the Moorsbus Community Interest Company decided to extend the season this year by an extra month, with services beginning in April. The expanded timetable now includes Saturday services, meaning the M1 will run every Saturday, Sunday, and Bank Holiday until Sunday the 27th of September 2026.
The M1 operates as a return service to the North York Moors. It departs from Bay 23 at Hull Paragon Interchange at 8.45am, stopping to pick up passengers in Cottingham, Beverley, Driffield, Wetwang, Malton, and Pickering.
From Pickering, passengers can connect to the M3 service, which continues into the North York Moors via Kirkbymoorside, Hutton Le Hole, and Danby.
For the return journey, passengers use the M3 to travel back to Pickering. The M1 service then begins its journey back to Hull at 4.45pm, returning passengers to Hull Paragon Interchange by 7.03pm.
Councillor Nick Coultish, the cabinet member for culture, leisure, tourism, and planning at East Riding of Yorkshire Council, expressed his support for the initiative.
Councillor Nick Coultish said:
"I’m extremely pleased we’ve been able to jointly fund this popular bus service to ensure it returns for this 2026 season.
This is another bus route that passengers in the East Riding and Hull can benefit from and explore what our neighbouring county has to offer."
Councillor Mark Ieronimo, the cabinet portfolio holder for transport and infrastructure at Hull City Council, highlighted the positive response from the public.
Councillor Mark Ieronimo said:
"The return of Moorsbus to the city last year was a real success story, with the service proving extremely popular with our residents.
As a council, we are delighted to be able to support Moorsbus again and that, thanks to customer demand, the service has been able to run an extended season and has been expanded to enable people to visit the North York Moors, by bus, on a Saturday as well."
Bill Breakell of the Moorsbus Community Interest Company noted that the expansion is a direct result of the public's engagement with the service.
Bill Breakell said:
"The return of the M1 service in 2025 was a phenomenal success and that is why we have added an extra month, new Saturday services and many new destinations on the network for the 2026 season.
This repays the faith shown in us by the people of East Yorkshire and we'd also like to thank Hull City Council, East Riding of Yorkshire Council and the Hull and East Yorkshire Combined Authority for their ongoing support."
While single and return fares vary depending on the start and return points of the journey, a Moors Rover ticket costs £10 for an adult and £3 for a child.
All English National Concessionary Travel Scheme passes are also accepted on the service. Further details regarding the full timetable and fares can be found on the Moorsbus website.
