The compulsory use of facemasks returned yesterday in shops and on public transport.
The return of the rules on masks comes as concern grows over the emergence of the Omicron COVID variant. Over 20 cases have now been reported in the UK.
As of yesterday anyone using public transport or entering a shop is required to use a face mask, unless they have a medical exemption.
As the rules came back in to force members of the Esk Valley Railway were handing out free mask to passengers at Whitby Railway Station.

Chairman Alan & General manager Lisa also gave out free hand sanitiser to travellers.

In Bridlington there has been a mixed response to the reintroduction of masks in shops, with two retailers in the same street taking differing views.
Today the health secretary's suggested coronavirus restrictions could be reviewed earlier than planned, as we learn more about the variant that's triggered them. As it stands, rules on things like the mandatory wearing of face masks in shops in England, will be looked at just days before Christmas. The health secretary insists 'a lot more' will be known about the Omicron variant of coronavirus in a couple weeks, as the government ramps up its Covid booster programme.
