Mixed Results for Yorkshire Coast Cricketers

There was a win, two defeats and a winning draw for our Yorkshire Coast cricketers on Saturday.

YPN Premier Scarborough suffered a rare loss, at Driffield.

Piet Rinke's men chose to bat first, but at 6 for 2 early on, must have been regretting the decision.

Prince Bedi's 23 helped Boro recover to 45/2 but they soon slumped again, to 66/4.

Youngster Ed Hopper top-scored with 31 and wicket-keeper Pat Roberts added 28 but the visitors collapsed to 117 all out.

Boro responded well, though, with Linden Gray taking 3 for 34 as Driffield slumped to 52/5.

However an unbroken fifth-wicket stand of 68 saw the hosts home in the 26th over.

In the YPN Championship, Bridlington suffered a heavier defeat.

Choosing to bat first at home to Hull Zingari, Brid sunk to 96/7, despite Russell Robinson trying to anchor the innings with an unbeaten 49.

Opener Casey Rudd (24) and wicket-keeper Steve Janney (15) were the only other batsmen to reach double figures- Robinson unlucky to miss out on 50 as the hosts were skittled for 125 in the 39th over.

Hull then coasted to their target in the 25th over without losing a wicket.

In the same division, Folkton & Flixton are an improving force after defeating Carlton Towers.

Towers chose to bat first and started solidly at 97/1, only to be bowled out for 187.

Elliot Hatton did most of the damage with 4/34- Max Harland and Callum Hatton took two wickets each.

Charlie Colley also collected a scalp and Harry Walmsley wrapped up the innings with his only ball of the innings.

The villagers then enjoyed a terrific start with the bat as both openers, Tom Norman and Will Hutchinson reaching fifty.

Even two quick wickets as the hosts slipped from 162/2 to 172/4 was too little too late for Towers. Harry Walmsley and Jake Hatton took the home side to their target with an unbroken 19-run partnership, for a six wicket win, with more than six overs remaining.

Whitby had to be happy with a winning draw at local rivals Guisborough, in North Yorkshire South Durham Division One.

After being put in to bat, Joe Padmore (32) and Lewis Brearley (35) put on 62 for the first wicket. Theo Clarke and skipper Kai Morris put on 95 for the third wicket before Morris was caught and bowled for 44. Clarke went on however and finished with a sparkling 101 not out as the visitors posted 271/8 from their 50 overs.

Tom Steyert, who had earlier added a useful 22 with the bat, then struck with the ball, in the first over. But Guisborough rallied to put on 90 for the second wicket.

However, when Guisborough slipped to 191/5, Morris' men would've had high hopes of claiming outright victory. All results were possible going into the closing overs, in the end Guisborough fell 21 runs short of their target, on 251/7. Steyert claimed his second wicket late on and the experienced duo of Ricky Hall (3/59) and Mark Jackson (2/60) ensured a winning draw for their resurgent side.
