There was bright sunshine but only one winner as both Scarborough and Whitby were at home in cricket action, on Bank Holiday Monday.
An appreciative North Marine Road crowd were treated to a comfortable Scarborough success, in Yorkshire Premier North.
Scarborough skipper Pat Roberts won the toss and invited York visitors Clifton Alliance to bat first.
They were soon in trouble at 13-1, stumbling to 65-5 as the home bowlers turned the screw.
Clifton were eventually dismissed for just 129 in 45.5 overs- Linden Gray mopped up the tail with his 3 for 24. Romario Brathwaite took 2 for 27 and Jack Holt 2 for 31. There were also wickets for James Wainman, Peter Rinke and Breidyn Schaper.
Scarborough were rocked by an early wicket, but recovered from 5/1 as Oliver Stephenson (30 not out) and Schaper but on 50 for the second wicket. Stephenson then held up one end as Ben Elvidge smashed 55 from 49 balls and Boro cruised to an eight-wicket victory in 32 overs.
Whitby were less successful, they also won the toss, at the Turnbull Ground, but chose to bat first against Marton in the Kerridge Cup.
Fin Morris (59) and Kieran Howard (44) put on 80 for the second wicket, but a collapse ensued as none of the following batsmen mustered more than 13 runs and the hosts slipped from 141/3 to 180/9 from their 40 overs.
The visitors found the surface very much to their liking and 20 from the opening over set the tone for their innings. Ricky Hall picked up the only wicket, of Lee Hodgson for a powerful 76, from just 53 balls. Ben Hutchinson (55 not out) and Tom Miller (44 not out) then eased the away side to a nine-wicket win, in the 32nd over.
