The street lighting situation in Whitby is "chronic" according to the town's mayor.
Whitby is literally in the Dark.
That's according to town councillors who have been expressing their frustration about the number of street lights in town that don't work and which have been out of service for some time.
Town Mayor - Councillor Linda Wild - says the issues have been raised with North Yorkshire County Council, but says so far nothing's happened.
Councillor Wild says the county council have failed to repair many lights which have been out of service for some time leaving areas of the town "in the dark"
Town Council Clerk - Michael King - says North Yorkshire County Council have reported a number of problems fixing the lights including those on New Quay Road.
