Malton Urgent Treatment Centre has reopened to patients following a fire, though the main hospital site remains temporarily closed.
The Malton Urgent Treatment Centre has officially reopened its doors to the public, allowing patients to attend as normal following a fire at the hospital site earlier this week.
While the urgent care facility is now fully operational, the main building at Malton Hospital remains temporarily closed as recovery and restoration efforts continue.
Healthcare officials are working diligently to resume full services at the site as soon as it is deemed safe to do so.
In the meantime, the temporary closure of the main hospital has impacted several routine services, including phlebotomy.
Patients who require blood tests are being redirected to alternative locations across the region until further notice.
These alternative sites include the Community Diagnostic Centre located at Eastfield in Scarborough, as well as the York Community Stadium.
Those with scheduled appointments at Malton Hospital are being urged not to turn up at the site unless they have been specifically contacted and instructed to do so by healthcare staff.
Hospital teams are currently in the process of reviewing all affected appointments to minimise disruption to patient care.
A spokesperson for the York and Scarborough Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust said:
"We are pleased to confirm that Malton Urgent Treatment Centre has now reopened and patients can attend as normal. Work continues to restore services at the main hospital following this week's fire. While the main hospital remains temporarily closed, our priority is to reopen and resume services as soon as it is safe to do so."
The Trust has also provided clear guidance for patients who were due to receive care at the hospital in the coming days, ensuring that individuals are kept informed about their treatment.
The spokesperson added:
"If you have an appointment at Malton Hospital, please do not attend unless you have been contacted and advised to do so. Our teams are reviewing all affected appointments and will contact patients directly to rearrange appointments or discuss the next steps."
The fire incident, which prompted a full evacuation of the premises earlier in the week, saw emergency services and local partners spring into action to ensure the safety of patients and staff.
The Trust expressed immense gratitude to those who assisted during the emergency response, as well as to the wider public for their ongoing understanding during a challenging period.
The hospital also highlighted the crucial role played by a nearby educational establishment, which provided a safe haven during the evacuation procedures.
The Trust stated:
"We would like to thank North Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service, our colleagues, partner organisations and the local community for their continued support, patience and understanding over the past few days. We have been incredibly touched by the kindness shown by local people, whose messages of support and offers of help have meant a great deal to our colleagues. We would also like to extend a special thank you to the staff at Malton School, whose swift support during the evacuation was invaluable."
Further updates regarding the restoration of inpatient wards and other specialist services are expected to be shared as more information becomes available.
Some of these specialist services on the Malton Hospital site are managed by partner organisations, including the Humber Teaching NHS Foundation Trust and the Tees, Esk and Wear Valleys NHS Foundation Trust, who are also involved in the ongoing recovery efforts.
