Pop-up vaccination clinics are being halted in Scarborough as few people make use of them.
With the government ending free COVID testing for most people yesterday the local testing sites on the Yorkshire Coast have also been closed down.
Signs and structures were being removed from Scarborough's William Street testing site yesterday.
Free Covid-19 testing will still be available for people with symptoms if they are:
- patients in hospital
- eligible for treatments because they are at higher risk of getting seriously ill
- living or working in high-risk settings such as care homes or the NHS
North Yorkshire's Chief Nurse, Sue Peckitt, says the pop-up vaccine clinics are also being stood down with little attendance at recent clinics in recent weeks.
Sue says the changing demand for vaccinations means the withdrawal of the pop-up clinics was inevitable but adds that the spring booster programme has now started with eligible groups including over-75s, care home residents and over-12s with conditions that suppress the immune system being able to access boosters.
Eligible patients will be able to book their booster on the national booking service or by calling 119 once they have been contacted by the NHS.
Figures show almost 90% of people in North Yorkshire have had a first dose and 86% their second, while 73% have had a booster.
Meanwhile the number of COVID patients in Scarborough Hospital remains high and Sue Peckitt says that is placing pressure on services.
