Losing Weekend For Yorkshire Coast Cricket Sides

Folkton & Flixton, Bridlington and Whitby were all on the losing side in Saturday's cricket.

It was the end of a five-match winning run for Folkton & Flixton, in the YPN Championship, after a tight home clash with Pickering.

After winning the toss and choosing to bat first, the villagers recovered from 51/2 with a 160-run partnership between opener Tom Norman and skipper Harry Walmsley.

Norman recorded a superb 112, with Walmsley smashing 88 from just 86 balls. The former Village Cup winners got to 285/6, from 50 overs, with all-rounder Connor Stephenson adding a useful unbeaten 21 late on.

The hosts struck twice early too, reducing Pickering to 49/2, however they also put on a big third-wicket partnership to move to 137/3.

It was neck and neck all the way to final over when a six was smashed from the second ball to win it for the visitors, with three wickets left. Charlie Colley took two wickets for the villagers, with one each for Walmsley, Stephenson, Max Harland and Tom Norman.

In the same division, Bridlington lost a high-scoring clash that yielded 640 runs.

Visitors Stamford Bridge won the toss and chose to bat first. They may have regretted that when Thomas Hudson struck with the score on seven. However partnerships of 97, 93, 47 and 89 followed as Bridge hammered their way to 348/7 from their 50 overs. Hudson took 3/72 and Ricky Robinson 3/74- Casey Rudd grabbed 1/78.

In reply, Brid were always struggling and at one point fell to 138/6. Rudd hit 84 from just 75 balls, with Russell Robinson leading the fightback with 66 from 67 balls. Ricky Robinson made an unbeaten 41 as the hosts avoided being bowled out, posting an impressive 292/8, thanks to partnerships of 73 and an unbroken 43. They did sadly end up 56 runs short, in the end.

In North Yorkshire South Durham Division One, Whitby won the toss, at Marske and chose to bat first.

However, Kai Morris' men struggled to 55/4. In the end only a 40 from in-form Paul Buck and Tom Steyert's 25 helped them make 171 from a ball short of 46 overs.

The hosts were handed those remaining overs Whitby didn't bat, but they made their target comfortably anyway. They got home in 40 overs, with seven wickets to spare. Ricky Hall took 2/32 and Steyert 1/53.

Scarborough's first team had no game.
