Increase in Cancer Referrals in North Yorkshire

The number of Cancer cases being reported in North Yorkshire has increased since the end of the lockdowns.

There was concern that people with symptoms weren't presenting at GP surgeries during the pandemic.

Deputy Director for Primary Care in the county - Lisa Pope - says there are now a larger than normal number of referrals coming through the system.

Increased capacity is now being created in North Yorkshire's Health Service to cope with the increase in the number of Cancer referrals.

Health bosses say that the decline in referrals during the lockdowns is resulting in an increase in referrals now as people come forwards.

Lisa Pope says they are taking a number of steps to increase capacity in the system.
