Hunmanby Heritage Open Days Return

Free heritage events are taking place in the village from today.

Hunmanby village has seven events taking during Heritage Open Days, a national event which runs until September 18th

A team of volunteers have spent the summer preparing for the free community even in the village.

The events start on Saturday 10th September around the village and include:

Wrangham House & Local History Group Display: Church Walk, 10am to 1pm
A Grade II listed Georgian house. Hunmanby Local History Group will be having a photographic exhibition "Listed Buildings of Hunmanby." There will also be an artefact quiz for people to try and identify artefacts and their use.

Community Centre: Parish Archive/Pop-up Museum, 10am-2pm
Wide-ranging display of documents, photographs, plans and maps from Parish Archive plus annual potato challenge weigh-in for Hunmanby Garden Association until 1pm.

All Saints Church: Church Hill, 10am to 3pm
Large medieval mother church for surrounding villages of Norman origin, mentioned in the Doomsday Book. Come and explore the 17th-century altar rail, hatchments, and monument of the Osbaldiston family, who were the 18th century lords of the manor.

Spring Café: ’A building’s use through time’ 4 Stonegate, 10am to 3pm
From the 1st village school built by the Lord of the Manor for his estate village to Community Cafe and Hunmanby Wellbeing Hub. A chance to meet and talk about Hunmanby's local history in this community café, enhanced with a display by the North Yorkshire County Council Outreach Librarian with old school records, photos and maps.

The White Swan Inn Exhibition: Cross Hill, all day from 11am
The White Swan buildings date from the 19th century, as a coaching inn, and village courthouse. Friends of the White Swan who have raised over £7,600 for local community groups, have helped the local landlord, Andy put on today's display.

Hunmanby Railway Station: 10am-4pm, (10-minute walk along Bridlington St)
See the photograph display, details about the North Eastern Railway Tile Map, partake of the harvest giveaway. Produce donated by Hunmanby Allotments, local households and Hunmanby Free Fridge. Where any remaining produce will be given after the event.

There is also an event on Thursday 15th September 2022 at the Spring Café (By All Saints Church) at 2pm entitled ‘Community Railways –Station Heritage projects.’ This will be a talk by Rob Lowson, about how station heritage has been restored, through partnership working between local councils, funding bodies, railway companies and local communities.
