Humberside Police Praise Public Dashcam Submissions Through Operation Snap

Humberside Police have revealed the significant impact of Operation Snap, with hundreds of dashcam submissions in March leading to court appearances, education courses, and driving bans for serious offences.

Humberside Police have praised the public for their vital assistance in catching dangerous drivers across the region through the force's Operation Snap initiative.

The digital scheme allows everyday motorists to submit their dashcam footage of driving offences directly to the police, providing an extra layer of enforcement on the road network.

Superintendent Gary Foster has highlighted the sheer volume of footage being submitted by road users, describing the public's contribution as an invaluable asset to the force's daily policing operations.

According to the latest figures released by Humberside Police for the month of March, the force received nearly six hundred video submissions from members of the public. This influx of evidence has led to a wide variety of enforcement actions against motorists caught breaking the law on camera.

Superintendent Gary Foster said:

"Operation Snap, which is our opportunity for people to use their dash cam and send the dash cam into us, which is scarily effective in terms of the volume that's coming in.

Force wide, 590 submissions in March. Of that 590, 128 weren't offences, but 160 people were sent for education courses. 19 caught disposals for the most serious offending, and some of that is 130, 140 mph overtakes on blind bends, etc. So those people will get banned at court."

The data demonstrates a broad spectrum of offences being captured by ordinary road users. This includes instances of extreme and highly dangerous speeding, such as drivers reaching speeds between one hundred and thirty and one hundred and forty miles per hour.

The submitted footage also caught motorists executing dangerous overtaking manoeuvres on blind bends, resulting in the most serious offenders facing court disposals and driving bans.

Dedicated roads policing officers are now assigned to review the submitted videos on a daily basis, ensuring that those who commit offences are identified and dealt with appropriately.

Alongside the most severe cases heading to court, the dashcam footage has also led to dozens of conditional offers and educational courses for lesser infractions, such as careless driving and ignoring traffic signals.

Superintendent Gary Foster added:

"We had 98 people given conditional offers in March, inconsiderate driving was 80, careless driving 122, another offences 17, traffic lights 33. Um, so, it's a really significant piece of work.

There are roads policing cops assigned to reviewing those videos every day and then we're going out and dealing with those people. So the public support in that is really welcomed and really helpful to us in order to catch offenders because it's stuff that we wouldn't see.

We have six motorway cars out every day and those six cars have been really supplemented by the support we're getting from the public by sending that dash cam footage in. So it's really invaluable for us."

Humberside Police currently operate six dedicated motorway patrol cars each day. However, officers acknowledge that their physical presence is limited, making the additional eyes of the public a crucial tool in maintaining road safety and catching offenders they would otherwise miss.

By utilising the Operation Snap portal, the force has been able to successfully hold drivers accountable for careless and inconsiderate driving, ensuring that the region's roads remain safer for everyone.
