Over 460 summer activities, ranging from sports and cooking to nature trails, have been announced for children across the region.
The Holiday Activities and Food summer programme has been announced by East Riding of Yorkshire Council, featuring over 460 activities for children and young people across the region.
The scheme, which caters to children aged four to 16, offers an extensive range of sessions, from water sports and graffiti workshops to pony trekking and Nerf challenges.
Families in receipt of benefits-related free school meals or council tax support can access the activities for free. All sessions are also available to other families on a paid-for basis, with prices varying depending on the activity and provider.
Councillor Victoria Aitken, cabinet member for children, families and education, said:
"I’m delighted with the range of HAF activities available this summer. Wherever families live, there will be something for children of all ages to enjoy within their community. From sports, music and dance to craft, nature activities and animal encounters – there’s lots of fun opportunities to keep children and young people active through the summer holidays."
New additions to the wider summer programme include science, technology, engineering, and mathematics activities, cricket, axe throwing, holistic therapies, and a sports leadership award for young people.
In Bridlington, the programme welcomes back popular sessions at The Edge, where the East Riding Active Communities Team will run high and low rope assault courses. Bridlington Club for Young People is set to host a Rolla Disco, a giant inflatable obstacle course, and a summer escape room. For children interested in nature, Rewilding is offering bushcraft, fossil hunting, pond dipping, and campfire cooking, while Bridlington Quay is organising beach days and glow parties.
Further activities in Bridlington include cricket drills and a sports leadership qualification with the Bridlington Cricket Foundation, as well as horse and pony care and countryside treks with Woldgate Trekking and Livery Centre. Genius Tuition will provide science experiments and balloon rockets, whilst Fuse Youth Service is offering music, acting, and wellbeing activities. The Wollstonecraft Society will also run creative writing and storytelling sessions, with creations to be displayed at The Wollstonecraft Festival of Rights and Creativity.
In Driffield, East Riding Leisure will provide Zorb football, swimming, cricket, tennis, and glow sports. Kip McGrath is offering sessions focused on magnets, pixel art, coding, and digital art, which are also available as part of the dedicated Special Educational Needs and Disabilities programme. Additionally, The Creation Station will run arts and crafts sessions featuring T-shirt design, ceramic painting, and junk modelling, while East Riding Family Hubs will lead pizza-making and muffin-baking workshops.
Children in Hornsea can take part in Italian-inspired cooking workshops with Amy's Cookery Academy, making dishes such as lasagne and tiramisu from scratch. Youth Player Development will run Nerf challenges, ultimate frisbee, and hockey, and the East Riding Active Communities Team will offer archery, Kinball, and dodgeball. For children with additional needs, Abilite is providing a SEND-specific programme in Hornsea that includes inflatable sumo wrestling suits, zorbing, and a giant bouncy castle.
In Withernsea, The Hut will offer open adventure play featuring sports, cooking, sand and water play, FIFA, and messy play. Youth Player Development will also bring their popular Nerf challenges and active games to the town, alongside pizza-making workshops hosted by East Riding Family Hubs.
