Whitby Town manager Nathan Haslam said his side were bullied at times in their 2-0 defeat at Stockton Town.
It was a first-ever NPL Premier meeting between the sides as Stockton were promoted through May's play-offs from NPL East.
Town fell behind to a spectacular strike late in the first half and then a scrambled goal after the interval.
They had a Nathan Thomas shot disallowed for offside moments into the second half.
Otherwise the Seasiders struggled to test the Stockton goalkeeper as Haslam attested:
Town face an FA Cup First Qualifying Round showdown at NPL West side Mossley, on Saturday, at 3pm.
