Efforts by North Yorkshire Police to tackle retail crime are beginning to show positive results, according to Deputy Chief Constable Scott Bisset.
Half of all shoplifting reports on the North Yorkshire Coast are leading to the culprits being identified.
The county's deputy Chief Constable - Scott Bisset - says the force has stepped up it's work on retail crime this year.
This increased focus appears to be having a positive impact. Deputy Chief Constable Bisset believes that these efforts have had the effect of "us instilling a little bit more confidence with with retailers to report it".
As a result of this increased reporting and proactive policing, Mr. Bisset noted that "our outcome rate on retail crime is really positive".
The Deputy Chief says that In some areas of the force, a significant proportion of reported retail crime is being detected.
Deputy Chief Constable Bisset stressed the importance of continued reporting of retail crime by businesses. He says that the proactive approach to retail crime across North Yorkshire, especially in coastal areas, is yielding encouraging results, both in terms of increased reporting and improved detection rates.
