A green construction Skills village is on the cards for Scarborough.
The borough council's cabinet gave their approval for the schemes business case this week.
The plan is to build on the success of the Construction Skills Village to give people skills in low carbon and green building technologies.
The green village will be based in Eastfield, local councillor Tony Randerson says it's good news for the area.
The project will convert existing buildings at High Eastfield Farm into a conference/training/meeting rooms, rentable co-working offices, simulator room, training/classroom, reception, kitchen, toilet, and ancillary spaces.
The business case for the Green Skills village says:
The developers have demonstrated that there is a skills gap within the local labour force on green construction technology, there is a demand by house builders for these skills and that it meets both local and national strategies to work towards a low carbon economy. The business case shows that the project can deliver significant public benefit for the investment and that an affordable scheme can be achieved. Town Deal funding allocation of up to £535,313 was awarded for this project, which could potentially be matched by £433,000 private investment.
Cabinet member for sustainability - Michelle Donohue-Moncrieff - says the village will fill a local skills gap in green construction.
