Graham School in Scarborough has been selected as one of 250 schools across the nation to receive solar panel installations through the Great British Energy (GBE) initiative.
This development is expected to significantly reduce the school's energy bills, allowing for savings to be redirected towards resources that directly benefit both staff and students.
Local MP Alison Hume has expressed her enthusiasm, stating,
"I'm delighted that Graham School in Scarborough is among 250 schools nationwide set to benefit from clean power courtesy of Great British Energy.
Solar panels, which are expected to shave thousands off energy bills throughout the course of their lifetime, will be installed on site. The money saved can then be spent on things which really matter to staff and pupils.
GBE's solar programme was expanded in September. Around £255m is being spent to improve infrastructure at key locations. As well as schools, NHS premises and those used by the military are also receiving upgrades. That's good news."
The installation of solar panels is anticipated to save thousands of pounds over their operational lifetime, which can then be reinvested into educational resources.
The solar programme by GBE was expanded in September, with a substantial investment of approximately £255 million aimed at enhancing infrastructure at various key locations. This initiative not only focuses on educational institutions but also includes upgrades for NHS premises and military facilities, highlighting a broader commitment to improving public services through sustainable energy solutions.
The move towards renewable energy sources is seen as a significant step in promoting environmental sustainability and financial efficiency within the education sector.
