Further Flooding Possible in North Yorkshire

The County Council are preparing for river levels to rise further with more bad weather expected.

North Yorkshire County Council say they have dealt with numerous issues brought about by the heavy rain over the last 48 hours, including road closures.

Bad weather predominantly in the west of the county has lead to a number of flood warnings and flood alerts being issued.

Karl Battersby is the council's Director of Business and Environmental Services. He is warning against travel unless it's an essential journey.

"People should not be out and travelling unless it is one of the essential journeys that they are allowed to make,"

"If you have to make a journey make sure you check before you set off what the weather conditions are, check our website, check the Environment Agency website, and if a road is closed please do not ignore road closure signs, they are there for a reason, they are there for public safety.

"If you have to travel through water, do so very slowly. Also bear in mind there may be things under the water you cannot see."
