Four-some Final Day for Yorkshire Coast Cricket Sides

All four of our leading local cricket sides won on Saturday, with Scarborough and Whitby playing their final matches of the season.

Scarborough secured second spot in the Yorkshire Premier North, with Yorkshire Academy to be removed from the table, after a six-wicket-win at Sheriff Hutton Bridge, on Saturday.

Pat Roberts' men won the toss and chose to field, but saw their hosts put on 49 for the first wicket, however they quickly slipped to 53/4, with Piet Rinke doing most of the damage. Rinke ended with figures of 3/34, with Ben Elvidge weighing in with 2/41 and Adam Newington mopping up the tail with an impressive three wickets in eight balls at the end. The home side were bowled out for 149 in 36.2 overs.

Scarborough's reply stuttered however as both openers, Duncan Brown and Oliver Stephenson, were trapped lbw early on, as they slumped to 11/2. However, Elvidge helped steady the ship and while Bridge took two further wickets, all-rounder James Wainman (40 not out) and captain Roberts (29 not out) saw their side home with six wickets and more than 17 overs to spare.

Folkton & Flixton have one more game to go, in the York & District Premier, but look to have just missed out on promotion. However, they had a good win at home to Goole, on Saturday. Asked to field first, the villagers soon had Goole in trouble on 41/5, Elliot Hatton (6/44) was the chief mischief maker, despite a 151-run partnership for the sixth wicket, Goole then slumped to 214 all out, losing their last three wickets for one run.

In reply, Folkton & Flixton put on a century stand for the first wicket. They had a 116 on the board when Will Hutchinson fell for 55. Harry Walmsley followed for 34, but when Hatton was third out, the home side were just eight runs short of victory. Will Norman carried his bat but will have been gutted to end up one run short of a deserved century, but he did help his side to a seven wicket win- they sit fourth in the league after the win.

Bridlington also have one game left and have a great chance of joining Folkton & Flixton in the Premier next season after crushing Londesborough Park by 163 runs in Division One East. After putting on 79 for the first wicket, Brid saw wicket-keeper captain John Major help himself to 56 as they posted 214/8 from their 50 overs. Casey Rudd took 2 for 2 in seven balls after Thomas Hudson claimed 5/14 with Ben Traves taking 3/34 as the hosts were despatched for just 51 in less than 23 overs. Brid are up to second going into their final game, at Dukes Park, against Hull Zingari, next Saturday.

Whitby finished their season with a victory as Guisborough were despatched in their A171 derby in North Yorkshire South Durham Division One. The visitors to the Turnbull Ground were bowled out for only 105. All four of Whitby's bowlers contributed with Corey Hart taking 4 for 29 and Fin Morris 3/36. Steve Allen then came on to take 1/16 and Tom Steyert 2/17. Steyert opened the batting and was Whitby's only casualty, for 44, as they eased to their target with nine wickets in hand. Theo Clarke finished unbeaten on 34. Kai Morris' men end the season in fourth spot after an unbeaten run in the final month.
