Folkton and Flixton Only Winners in Saturday's Big Cricket Clashes

Folkton and Flixton enjoyed a big win but there was disappointment for Scarborough, Whitby and Bridlington's cricketers on Saturday.

The former Village Cup winners remain top of the York & District Premier Division after thumping Studley Royal by 146 runs.

Batting first, Folkton and Flixton struck 262 for 8, including 48 in the final four overs. Will Hutchinson top-scored with 75, skipper Tom Norman added 63 and Connor Stephenson smashed 45 from just 27 balls.

Studley looked shell-shocked in response, losing three wickets without scoring a run. They were 7/4 before eventually dragging themselves over 100. Charlie Colley took 3 for 18 and Elliot Hatton 2 for 35 as the hosts were skittled for 116, with just three players making double figures.

Bridlington remain top of Division One East, but suffered a rare defeat, as Pocklington inflicted a 57-run defeat.

Despite capturing an early wicket, Brid may have been regretting the decision to bat first as the home side put on 87 for their second wicket. Solid partnerships took Pock to 185/3, before a mini-collapse saw them languishing on 207/8, with John Major (4/44) doing most of the damage. Richard Robinson grabbed two wickets of his own but the visitors would've been disappointed to see Pocklington add an unbroken 42 for the ninth wicket.

Facing a 250-run target, Brid never got going, slumping to 34/3. They recovered to 120/4 as Steve Janney struck 53, but wickets fell regularly. Janney and Tom Hudson put on 38 for the ninth wicket, but it wasn't enough to prevent a heavy loss which allowed sides to cut Brid's advantage at the top to just 12 points.

Scarborough also suffered a defeat as they dropped from third to fifth in Yorkshire Premier North.

It seemed a long way off as Boro won the toss on a blazing-hot day and chose to bat first, putting on successive century stands for the first two wickets. Oliver Stephenson was unlucky to miss out on three figures after being run out for 94, after Duncan Brown made a speedy 71 before he was trapped lbw. Breidyn Schaper added 69 as Scarborough posted a formidable-looking 289/3 from their 50 overs.

Hosts Acomb lost an early wicket as James Wainman struck with just 32 on the board. However, by the time the second wicket fell, the York side had amassed 227. Wainman was again the architect as William Wade fell caught behind by keeper-captain Pat Roberts for 96. Darius D'Silva's 131 not out was the difference, though and he guided Acomb home, by eight wickets and with eight balls to spare.

Whitby were also left frustrated in a pulsating match at the Turnbull Ground, with Darlington. The County Durham visitors amassed 232/7 batting first after being put in. The experienced pair of Steven Allen and Ricky Hall both finished with figures of 2 for 47. Fin Morris started off with an economic 1 for 54 from 14 overs.

The hosts lost early wickets, including the highly-rated Morris for a duck, as they faltered to 44/3. Theo Clarke and Paul Buck put on 68, but when both fell for no runs, the home side had to rebuild. Andy Wood and skipper Kai Morris shared 87 and with the hosts 199/5, they needed just 34 runs for victory. However, both fell for 45 and a nervous final over saw Whitby finish one run short on 231 for 9, having to settle for a losing draw.
