Two local footballers are embarking on an ambitious 24-hour run from Leeds United's Elland Road Stadium to Bridlington Spa to raise awareness and funds for the Movember Foundation
The challenge, taking place on Friday 29th November and Saturday 30th November, will see Mitch and Joe cover a minimum distance of 117 km (71 miles), with the possibility of extending the run if they finish early.
Movember is a charity close to the hearts of the Flamborough football team, to which Mitch and Joe belong. For the past five years, the team has been actively involved in fundraising events for Movember, addressing crucial men's health issues like suicide awareness, mental health, prostate cancer, and testicular cancer.
While Mitch is a first-time participant in the Movember fundraising, Joe has been part of the "Mo Team Brid Boro" team for the past five years. They have received immense support from their teammates, local communities in Bridlington, friends, family, and members of the Bridlington gym where they train.
Mitch and Joe say they hope to draw attention to the cause and add to the clubs fundraising total
To prepare for the challenge, the duo initially focused on running two to three half marathons a week but faced some setbacks due to injuries. Recognizing the unique nature of a 24-hour run, they acknowledged that true preparation would only come from experiencing it first hand. They plan to rely on adrenaline to push them across the finish line.
A support car, generously provided by Toyota (Joe's employer), will accompany them throughout the journey. The car will be equipped with gels, food, and drinks to keep them fuelled and hydrated. The team plans to take short breaks every hour for sustenance, factoring these stops into their overall plan.

The team has already surpassed their initial fundraising target of £2,500, currently standing at over £3,000. They aim to reach £4,000 through this run. Their collective efforts as a team have raised nearly £20,000 throughout the month, contributing to an impressive total of almost £50,000 over the past five years.
People can follow their journey and show their support through the team's Instagram page, which will be updated hourly. The route will also be shared on the page. Several team members plan to join them for portions of the run, further highlighting the collective spirit of the challenge.
Mitch and Joe emphasise the importance of starting conversations around men's health, acknowledging that Movember's focus on men extends to everyone, as women also have men in their lives affected by these issues.
