Fire crews from Scarborough, Filey and Robin Hood’s Bay have been called out to deal with a fire within a derelict hotel on Belmont Road in Scarborough.
The fire was said to be on multiple levels.
North Yorkshire Fire and rescue service says:
"An aerial platform is in use along with three 45mm jets from outside the building."
Fire crew were called to the scene just before 3am today. The Police, Northern Powergrid and Transco were requested and are also attending.
The aerial platform being used as a water tower.
The Fire service add:
"Firefighting is continuing with firefighters wearing breathing apparatus now committed internally. Premises believed to have been closed for some time."
Local people report that the power supply in the area was off overnight but returned around 7am.
