A driver has been charged with multiple offenses after a high-speed pursuit that began in Filey.
The incident occurred when Acting Police Sergeant (A/PS) Grainge from Filey's Neighbourhood Policing Team attempted to stop a VW Transporter van around 12pm on Wednesday (January 29th).
The driver sped off when the police activated their blue lights, leading to a pursuit that extended into Humberside.
According to North Yorkshire Police, the driver is facing charges of failing to stop, dangerous driving, and failing to provide an evidential sample for analysis. The suspect is due to appear at Scarborough Magistrates Court on 17th February 2025.
The pursuit involved the suspect driving at high speeds on country roads.
During the pursuit, the suspect overtook a car and drove close to some cyclists. Police are asking for the driver of the car and the cyclists to contact the investigating officer.
The driver eventually crashed into a hedge between Bempton and Flamborough. Following the crash, the suspect was arrested.
A/PS Grainge said,
"The driver was arrested following the pursuit, road safety is one of our top priorities and our aim is to keep our local community safe".
