TransPennine Express is getting into the rhythm of the world’s biggest singing competition by inviting local musicians to perform at their specially created ‘Eurovision Song Zone' in Scarborough.
The Eurovision Song Contest is taking pace in Liverpool this week and here on the East Coast local musicians are being invited to celebrate the event by performing in a special "Eurovision Song Zone" at Scarborough Railway Station.
Elizabeth Williams, from station operator TransPennine Express, says the idea is to let local artists and musicians to show off their talents and entertain passengers waiting on the platform in the run up to the song contest, which is being held in the UK for the first time in 25 years.
A flavour of the Eurovision Song Contest is coming to Scarborough this week.
Elizabeth says the "Eurovision Song Zone" at Scarborough Railway station will hopefully shine a light on local musicians.
TPE has created the performance areas at Manchester Airport, Huddersfield, Hull, Middlesbrough and Scarborough Train Stations as the anticipation and excitement builds ahead of the worldwide musical extravaganza.
Musicians who want to take part in the event can book a slot on the "Eurovision Song Zone" by emailing TPE@eurovision.songzone.com but Elizabeth says local musicians are also welcome to make use of the space as and when it's free.
Kathryn O’Brien, Operations and Customer Experience Director at TPE, said:
“As with the rest of the country, we couldn’t be more excited for the Eurovision Song Contest and we’re delighted it’s taking place in the north.
“Our Eurovision Song Zones are in place at Manchester Airport, Huddersfield, Hull, Middlesbrough and Scarborough Train Stations so that budding musicians can entertain passengers in the build up to the famous competition. Whether you’re the next Sandie Shaw or Sam Ryder we would love for musicians of all abilities to show off their talents in our designated performance areas.”
