Four fire brigades attended a roof fire to a bungalow in Commondale, on Saturday.
Crews from Stokesley, Whitby, Danby and one from Cleveland Fire Brigade attended the blaze, which caused 50% damage to the roof and contents of the loft.
Fire officers extinguished the fire and removed roof tiles to check for further damage. The cause is believed to be animals chewing through electrical cables in the loft.
Two hose reel jets, roof ladder, triple extension ladder, hand tools, working at height equipment and a thermal imaging camera were used to bring things under control.
