Bridlington Old Town Association say there are no longer able to stage the town's 1940's festival.
The Bridlington 1940's Festival started in 2017 and quickly became a popular annual event in the town each summer.
Last year the Old Town Association cancelled the event a week before it was due to take place after a mix up over road closure applications for the event, local traders rallied round to stage a replacement "Vintage Festival"
In a post on social media today the Old Town Association announced that it would no longer be able to deliver the event saying:
"It is with great sadness that we must confirm that we will no longer be able to bring you our 1940’s Festival. From 2017 when we began, the event has grown and grown, but our team has got smaller and smaller and the lack of volunteers has finally taken its toll.
As a team we are proud of what we have achieved and no one is more upset about this decision than we are. Despite having full-time jobs and family commitments, we have done this happily and voluntarily for sheer pride of seeing people’s enjoyment, seeing businesses busy and the stunning and historic Old Town full of life.
We would like to thank residents, businesses, sponsors, re-enactors, traders, entertainers and schools for their help and support over the past years and also everyone who attended and made the event such a success for Bridlington.
The group say that they will continue to deliver other events in the town including their Secret Gardens Weekend, the Old Town Association say:
On a happier note, we are delighted to announce that the ever-popular Secret Gardens Weekend will go ahead on the 22nd & 23rd June, along with the Summer Fete on Sunday 23rd on Church Green.
We held this event for the first time last year in conjunction with the Priory Church and plan to make it bigger and better for 2024. We do hope you will come along and support this event too.
Thank you from all the team at the Bridlington Old Town Association."
