North Yorkshire's emergency services are set to work together on a joint motorcycle safety initiative which will spread lifesaving messages across the county this summer.
North Yorkshire is home to two national parks and some of the most incredible scenery in the UK, as the clocks spring forward this Sunday it traditionally sees an increase of motorbikes on a weekend.
The new tri-service approach to motorcycle safety will see a representative from North Yorkshire Police, North Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service and Yorkshire Ambulance Service work as a team to engage with motorcyclists.
Throughout the summer on specific days three marked motorbikes and their riders will set out in a pack and head to areas in North Yorkshire where motorbikes congregate.
North Yorkshire Police say:
"Sadly, every year, lives are lost due to road traffic collisions which all three-emergency services attend. Across North Yorkshire collisions have fallen by 25% between 2023/2024, however motorcyclists still remain the greatest risk at 26% of those involved, the dedicated tri-service patrols hope to reduce that number this year."
The partnership approach, which is believed to be the first of its kind in the north, will work on a preventative strategy.
It's hoped that the use of the high-performance marked bikes will help break down barriers with other motorcyclists and create inroads for tri-service staff to focus on engagement.
Each service will provide a highly skilled rider who will utilise their knowledge and experience to demonstrate the enormous risks by reminding road-users to slow down and look out for each other.
