An East Riding College student has received national recognition after being shortlisted for Learner of the Year in the prestigious NCFE Aspiration Awards.
Harvey Truscott-Hull, who is studying Health and Social Care at the college, which is part of the TEC Partnership, has been praised by staff for his personal growth, commitment, and determination throughout his educational journey.
Having begun his studies on the Level 1 Health and Social Care course, Harvey is now nearing the completion of Level 2. Educators state he has exceeded expectations through hard work, a positive attitude, and a dedication to improving both academically and personally.
Tutors have highlighted his exceptional commitment to learning, noting his 100 per cent attendance record and his consistent readiness to engage, contribute, and challenge himself in lessons.
Throughout his time at the institution, Harvey has reportedly grown in confidence, independence, and his understanding of the health and social care sector, developing essential skills for a future career in the industry.
Alongside his academic success, he is known among his peers for being kind, caring, and approachable, helping to foster a positive and supportive environment for fellow students.
Kirsty Coleman, the East Riding College assessor who nominated Harvey for the award, said:
"One of the things that really stands out about Harvey is the determination he has shown to improve his maths. He chose to attend extra maths sessions in his own time, which demonstrates real motivation and commitment to his future goals.
Through his own hard work and the support of our maths tutors, Harvey successfully achieved his Maths GCSE, which is a huge accomplishment and something he should be incredibly proud of."
Staff at the college have also praised Harvey for the positive influence he has on his classmates, describing him as focused, respectful, and supportive within the classroom environment.
Nicola Adams, the Interim Principal at East Riding College, said:
"We are incredibly proud of Harvey and everything he has achieved. His nomination for Learner of the Year is thoroughly deserved and reflects the hard work, determination and positive attitude he demonstrates every single day.
Harvey’s journey is a fantastic example of how further education can help students grow in confidence, develop valuable skills and realise their potential. He has embraced every opportunity available to him and has become a real role model for others at college.
Achievements like this are important not only for Harvey personally, but also for our wider community, showing the incredible talent and ambition we have across our region."
The NCFE Aspiration Awards celebrate outstanding achievements in education, training, and apprenticeships across the UK, recognising learners who demonstrate commitment, resilience, and excellence.
College representatives believe Harvey’s success highlights the importance of vocational education and the opportunities it creates for young people to build skills, confidence, and rewarding futures within their chosen industries.
The winners of the NCFE Aspiration Awards will be announced later this year.
