Driver Stuck In North Yorkshire Flood for Five Hours

North Yorkshire Fire and Rescue service are reminding people not to drive through flood water after a number of call-outs to trapped motorists yesterday and overnight.

Station manager Bob Hoskins says the Malton and Pickering crews were involved in rescuing a man who had been stuck in his vehicle for five ours before calling for assistance.

I have just attended an incident with malton & Pickering at Buttercrambe rescuing a 58 year old male who had driven into flood water. He sat in his van for over 5 hours before calling for assistance. Please don’t drive around road closed signs

The Fire and Rescue service are also highlighting that they are there to rescue people and not vehicles.

The advice from the Fire and Rescue Service is

"Please don't ignore road closed signs. There's still a lot of flooded roads across the county. If you see a road closed sign or come across a flooded road turn around and find another route."
