Humberside's Police & Crime Commissioner is encouraging more parishes to start Community Speed Watch schemes.
Under the programme Local people in high vis clothing are trained to use speed guns and send the details of anyone exceeding the speed limit to police- who can then issue warning letters.
Commissioner Jonathan Evison says he's in favour of the scheme:
Humberside's Police & Crime Commissioner says he is taking steps to help expand the use of community speed watch schemes.
The scheme was launched in 2019 and is available for Town and Parish Councils throughout the Humberside Police force area to join, subject to certain criteria. The number of trained volunteers is now over 600 and growing each month.
Commissioner Jonathan Evison says while he thinks the scheme is good there can be problems:
Individuals wanting to form a Community Speed Watch group should contact their local Parish/Town Council in the first instance and show an expression of interest in forming a group.
