Over 65 people have received defibrillator training at an event in Hunmanby and helped raise funds for a new community defibrillator.
Jo Watson, Community Defibrillation Co-ordinator from Yorkshire Ambulance Service, provided a defibrillator training session on Tuesday 28th March in the function room at the White Swan Inn.
Over 65 people from Hunmanby and the surrounding villages attended. Jo, gave a thorough insight into both Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) and how a defibrillator works. One top tip from Jo, was to put the 'what3words' app on your phone as this maps the country in 3m squares. This is great help to the emergency services to pinpoint your location.
The White Swan laid on a supper, and tea and coffee; Spirit of Yorkshire Distillery kindly provided a surprise raffle prize of a pair of tickets for a distillery tour (won by Helen & John from the village).
A raffle of Easter eggs provided by the White Swan raised over £100 for a public access defibrillator outside the White Swan in the heart of the village at Cross Hill. All this made it a right good community night out, and encouraged people to stay and ask Jo questions and see and practise on the dummy used to demonstrate CPR.

Jo from Yorkshire Ambulance Service is so passionate about the work she does; with an additional defibrillator coming soon at the White Swan and the recent installation of one at Hunmanby Gap in the old telephone box, funded partly by Filey Lions it’s great to see that communities are working together to ensure these vital facilities are available if needed.
I am overwhelmed by the generosity of people and organisations who have helped, to ensure we now have enough funds to pay for both the defibrillator (£1,000) and £500 for the special heated box (required by the batteries) so it can be put on the outside wall in a prominent place and be available 24/7.
