Without their first choice centre halves, Town were exposed by relegation rivals in Derbyshire, on Saturday.
Despite this, it was one of the stand-in defenders, Jas Sukar, who fired Whitby ahead in the opening 25 minutes, through a crowd of players.
However, a shocking 15-minute spell cost the Seasiders as hosts Mickleover Sports, second-bottom in the NPL Premier, turned the match on it's head to lead 3-1 just before half-time.
A much-more focused Blues side came out for the second half with a double change seeing Adam Gell and Aaron Haswell make way for Mitch Curry and Alfie Doherty. Town quickly made it 3-2 as Sam Collins crossed for Matty Tymon to net.
However, the Derbyshire side made it 4-2 so Michael Woods' injury time strike proved a mere consolation.
The Seasiders are now just a single point clear of the NPL Premier relegation zone, with a game in hand, at Gainsborough, on Tuesday.
