The final stages of securing millions of pounds of town deal funding for Scarborough and Whitby are underway.
The Borough Council is preparing the final business cases for ten projects, which could see government cash released this summer.
Alex Richards is from the council's regeneration team he says the deadline for submission is fast approaching.
Both Whitby and Scarborough were eligible to apply for Town Deal funding and between them have secured £35m of prospective funding.
To release the money the council has to submit business cases outlining the projects, these have been draw up by the Town Deal boards working with the borough council.
Alex Richards says three projects have already been approved and received funding, the business cases being submitted this month will hopefully secure the funds for the remaining schemes.
The ten projects for which business cases are being submitted are:
Fablab,
Scarborough Fair,
Scarborough Harbour West Pier,
Scarborough Walking and Cycling,
Scarborough Station Gateway,
Wild Eye,
Broomfield’s Farm Net Zero Living
Whitby Harbourside Public Realm and Swing Bridge,
Whitby Old Town Hall and Market Place and
Whitby Maritime Training Hub
A government decision on the funding is expected in June. Further work will then be needed to finalise the development plans for the projects and to secure match funding where necessary.
The projects will be delivered between 2022 and 2026.
