The B1249 Staxton Hill will be closed for routine maintenance on Monday & Tuesday next week, with a signed diversion route in place via Bridlington.
Motorists and local residents are being alerted to an upcoming road closure affecting the B1249 Staxton Hill in Staxton.
The route will be closed to traffic on Monday the 6th of July and Tuesday the 7th of July. These closures will be implemented during the daytime hours, between 9:30 am and 3:30 pm on both of the affected days.
The closure is required to allow for routine maintenance works to be carried out on the road. Originally, these works were scheduled to take place later in the year, during September. However, the schedule has been intentionally altered to minimise the overall impact on the local road network.
By shifting the dates, the maintenance will now coincide with a separate, pre-existing road closure located further south along the same B1249 route.
A spokesperson for the highways team outlined the strategy behind the altered timetable:
"We are bringing forward the routine maintenance works normally carried out on Staxton Hill September to coincide with a separate road closure further south along the B1249. We are doing this to reduce disruption by avoiding the need for an additional closure later in the summer."
To ensure that motorists can still reach their destinations during the restricted hours, a comprehensive and fully signed diversion route will be put in place for the duration of the works.
The official diversion will direct road users away from the closure via the A1039 and the A165, taking drivers towards Bridlington. From there, traffic will be routed along the B1253 before finally rejoining the B1249. The exact same diversion route will apply in reverse for those travelling in the opposite direction.
Drivers who regularly use the Staxton Hill route are being urged to take note of the upcoming dates and times, and to plan their journeys accordingly to accommodate the diversion via Bridlington.
