Closure Order on Bridlington Property Following Antisocial Behaviour and Alleged Drug Dealing

East Riding of Yorkshire Council has secured a three-month closure order on a property following severe antisocial behaviour, intimidation, and alleged drug dealing.

East Riding of Yorkshire Council has successfully secured a full closure order on a council-owned property in Bridlington. The legal enforcement action follows persistent reports of severe antisocial behaviour and alleged drug dealing connected to the address.

The closure order was officially granted by Beverley Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday the 24th of June. According to the council, the enforcement action has been taken against a flat located on Haworth Walk in Beverley.

Under the strict terms of the newly implemented court order, no individuals are permitted to enter the property for a designated period of three months. The only exceptions to this rule are for authorised personnel, which includes council officers, police officers, emergency services, and utility providers.

Authorities have issued a stark warning regarding compliance with the court order. Anyone else found entering or remaining at the premises without a reasonable excuse could face severe legal consequences. Penalties for breaching the closure order include a financial fine, a term of imprisonment, or potentially both.

During the legal proceedings, the magistrates court heard detailed evidence outlining the extent of the disturbances impacting the local community. The court was informed that there had been a significantly large stream of visitors attending the property.

Alongside the high volume of visitors, there were serious reports concerning the intimidation of other residents living nearby. The court also heard evidence regarding continual noise disturbances occurring throughout the night, which severely impacted the quality of life for neighbours.

Furthermore, the legal application included serious allegations of theft, criminal damage, and drug dealing taking place at the location. It was also noted during the proceedings that a Misuse of Drugs Act warrant had previously been executed at the property by law enforcement.

The documented antisocial behaviour involved highly unusual activity, with visitors entering the property at all hours of the day and night. The court heard that this included individuals bypassing traditional entrances and instead using an outside ladder to access the first-floor flat directly through the windows.

The successful closure order application followed a prolonged and detailed investigation conducted by council officers. In order to gather evidence and support affected neighbours, this comprehensive investigation included hosting a dedicated street surgery and carrying out door-knocking exercises on nearby properties.

Councillor Lyn Healing, the East Riding of Yorkshire Council cabinet member for communities and public protection, said:

"We’re dedicated to taking firm action against antisocial behaviour and ensuring that the East Riding remains a good place to live. We encourage residents to report antisocial behaviour in their area, so that the council can investigate and take appropriate action."

Local residents who need more information about how to report antisocial behaviour can find guidance on the East Riding of Yorkshire Council website at www.eastriding.gov.uk/anti-social-behaviour. Additionally, incidents of anti-social behaviour can also be reported directly to the council by calling their dedicated line on 01482 396380.
