Covid Infection Rate Plummets in Scarborough

Scarborough’s coronavirus infection rate has plummeted as non-essential shops and pubs get ready to reopen today.

The borough’s seven-day coronavirus infection rate per 100,000 people has fallen to 24 after hitting 47 on Friday last week.

At one point last week the borough’s rate hit 50 and was the highest in North Yorkshire.

Now, Scarborough is Craven and Selby and has also dropped back below the average rate for England, which stands at 27.

Today, pubs and restaurants will once again be able to serve people seated outside and non-essential shops are also welcoming customers back.

Hairdressers are also allowed to open their doors and self catering holidays with members of a household or a support bubble are an option again.

Mobile testing facilities will be available in Whitby, Scarborough and Filey this week for anyone with symptoms to get tested.

William Street Coach Park in Scarborough is also still offering testing seven days a week from 8am until 8pm.

Tests can be booked here.
