The address on Colescliffe Road has been the subject of a catalogue of calls to the police, council and the housing association recently regarding complaints of anti-social behaviour, crime, and disorder.
On Tuesday, 15th October 2024, York Magistrates’ Court granted a three-month closure order on a property in Colescliffe Road, Barrowcliff. The order prohibits anyone from living in the property. This action was taken as part of the ongoing "Clear, Hold, Build" project, which aims to tackle serious and organised crime and anti-social behaviour in the estate.
The Scarborough Neighbourhood Policing Team, in conjunction with community partners, obtained the closure order following numerous complaints from residents regarding anti-social behaviour, crime, and disorder at the address.
Despite warnings and interventions, the resident's behaviour did not improve, leading to the closure notice being issued on Monday, 14th October. This notice, which prevented anyone but the tenant from entering the property for 48 hours, allowed the case to be heard in court. York Magistrates’ Court then granted a three-month closure order on Tuesday (15 October). This now prohibits any person from living within the property.
Sergeant Tom Wilkinson of the Scarborough Neighbourhood Policing Team stated that the closure order aims to provide residents with a peaceful living environment free from the threat of crime and anti-social behaviour, he said:
“The Community Safety Hub have compiled complaints from residents, which has been presented to the court in relation to this matter.
“Despite several warnings and interventions regarding their behaviour, and the effects it has had on the local community, there have been no improvements.
“The resident has been supported by multiple agencies and has now been offered alternative accommodation.”
The resident, who has received support from various agencies, has now been offered alternative accommodation.
The "Clear, Hold, Build" project continues to work towards improving the lives of residents in Barrowcliff. More information about the project can be found on the North Yorkshire Police website. Clear, Hold, Build | North Yorkshire Police
