When Scarborough Borough Council is abolished next April, local representation on the new county wide unitary authority will be through a series of "local area committees".
North Yorkshire's new unitary council will be in touch with local issues.
That's the reassurance from the Chief Exec of the existing County Council.
Richard Flinton says the new authority will be built around what are being called "local area committees" (LAC) which will consist of the councillors from the local area, Richard says they will have significant responsibility.
Richard Flinton says the local committees will ensure that local views are heard.
The local area committees are going to be based on the existing parliamentary constituencies rather then the borough council boundaries. So while Scarborough and Whitby will be covered by the same LAC, Filey will be in an area with Malton and Thirsk.
Richard Flinton says the areas have been designed along parliamentary boundaries for a number of reasons.
