A Bridlington Councillor says he is "hopeful" that services can be built back up at the town's hospital.
Lib Dem Councillor Mike Heslop-Mullens says he held a "very friendly and constructive" meeting on Wednesday 9th September with the East Riding Cabinet member for Health Services (Cllr Vanessa Walker) to find ways to improve health services in Bridlington.
Mike said..
" I outlined to her the various concerns that residents have over health care in Bridlington and we tried to find a way forward on a number of key areas. Three of these are;
- Widening the range of services at Bridlington Hospital for example they ought to be able to remove stitches, simple injections or routine medical procedures. This would avoid residents having to travel to Scarborough Hospital for these kind of minor procedures.
- Improved transport for residents where they have to travel to distant hospitals.
- Better integrated care along the lines of that provided at the Jean Bishop Centre in Hull.
I am keen that we reverse the running-down of Bridlington Hospital Services and build back what we can."
Mike added:
"I dont want to over-promise and under-deliver but I am hopeful that we can move things in the right direction. The important thing is to try and improve services to Bridlington residents. They are what counts. I will continue to fight for the medical services that Brid residents need and deserve."
