Some Scarborough Borough Councillors have expressed concerns that coastal communities could get overlooked when devolution measures come into effect.
Next April will see big changes to local government in North Yorkshire.
Scarborough Borough Council is being abolished along with the county council, they will be replaced by one unitary authority for the whole of the county.
There are also plans for York and North Yorkshire to have an elected mayor overseeing some policy areas that would be devolved from Westminster.
Scarborough Borough Councillor Bill Chatt is worried.
The changes are causing concern for a number of borough councillors who fear that coastal issues might get overlooked or not be properly understood.
Borough Councillor Jane Mortimer is concerned that councillors base further inland won't be familiar with the issues.
