There are concerns that some 40 to 74 year olds in North Yorkshire are missing out on NHS health checks.
North Yorkshire Council’s scrutiny of health committee is to look into why the take up of health checks in the county is below 50%
Director of health and adult services- Richard Webb - says he's concerned about the number of people missing out on the checks and wants to see new ways of delivering the check ups
Nearly a quarter of people who took up the offer of a free NHS health check in North Yorkshire in the three months to April, were found to have a moderate to high risk of cardio-vascular disease.
The programme is being offered to some extent by 60 out of 69 GP practices in the county and in the three months to April of the 4,092 people who received a health check 952 people were identified with a moderate to high cardio-vascular disease risk.
There are concerns that not enough people are coming forwards for the checks with take-up at less than 50 per cent than for the same period over the previous four years.
Director of health and adult services- Richard Webb - thinks a more friendly approach might be needed.
Public health bosses say the scale of undetected conditions such as cardio-vascular disease, diabetes and high blood pressure is huge and the checks are cost effective, preventing illness with the potential to save up to 500 lives a year across England.
