There is a call for more clarity around the situation with Bridlington's bathing water quality.
The Environment Agency are recommending no bathing at Bridlington South Beach for then whole of the 2023 season after the water quality there was rated as poor.
But councillors are asking for clearer communications about the affected area.
Bridlington North is rated good and East Riding Councillor Andy Walker says waters south of Wilsthorpe are also rated as good.
The Environment Agency bathing water website https://environment.data.gov.uk/bwq/profiles/profile.html?site=uke1200-08100 contains a map showing where the samples are taken on Bridlington South beach, but doesn't clearly show what area is affected by the no bathing advice.

The data section of their site does contain co-ordinates identifying the "Map Bounds" for Bridlington South Beach. When plotted on a map they show a stretch of beach running for approximately 2km from the Harbour to the South Cliff Park and Ride site. But it is still not clear from the agency website if the no bathing advice applies to all of this area or just a part of it.

Councillor Walker says there needs to be immediate action to make it clear that it is not all of Bridlington's bathing waters that are subject to the poor rating.
The reason for the poor rating remains a mystery, with neighbouring Bridlington North Beach classed as good and other nearby beaches rated excellent.
Council Leader - Jonathan Owen - says the agencies involved need to work quickly to resolve the problem.
