Firefighters in Scarborough and Whitby were kept busy last night responding to a variety of incidents.
In Whitby, a crew responded to a chimney fire at a two-story home just after 5pm. The fire was caused by a build-up of soot. Firefighters used chimney rods and water to put out the fire. They also conducted a thermal inspection to check for hotspots.
Later in the evening Whitby firefighters assisted paramedics in gaining entry to a property where an occupant had fallen and was unable to move. Crews used small tools to gain entry.
In Scarborough, a crew responded to flooding inside a home just before 8pm. They checked the source of the water and confirmed that the water levels were not rising. The crew also gave advice to the occupants.
Later in the night, a crew from Scarborough helped paramedics with a difficult extrication of a casualty from their property.
Crews from Scarborough also responded to activated fire alarms in commercial and residential buildings which turned out to be false alarms.
