As schools return this week there are accompanying changes to the way the COVID testing system is set up in North Yorkshire.
COVID tests sites are going to take on an extra role as part of a Community Collect programme.
It will enable people to pick up batches of rapid flow tests to enable home testing for people connected with schools.
Public Health Consultant Dr Victoria Turner explains how the system works.
Dr Turner says the home testing scheme will initially be available to households connected with schools
About 1 in 3 people with coronavirus do not have symptoms but can still pass it on to others. North Yorkshire County Council say:
"Regular testing of people without symptoms is important to help stop the virus spreading and protect your loved ones. As lockdown restrictions gradually ease we all need to play our part to help protect each other. As our schools head back on 8 March, the following people in England will have access to regular rapid lateral flow testing made available to them:
- secondary school pupils
- primary and secondary school staff
- households, childcare and support bubbles of primary and secondary-age pupils
- households, childcare and support bubbles of primary and secondary staff
Primary school pupils will not be asked to test at this time."
