A Bridlington woman who was helped back into education by the Helena Kennedy Foundation is starting a series of walks today to raise funds and awareness for the organisation.
Kirsty Young will be walking for two hours each evening for the next 50 nights.
As a former winner of a bursary from the foundation Kirsty says the work they do to get adults into further education is invaluable.
the Helena Kennedy Foundation give out bursary's of just over 2 thousand pounds to help people get back into education, Kirsty is hoping to raise enough to pay for a bursary.
Kirsty says she has first hand experience of just how valuable the bursary can be.
"The students who are selected as winners have all overcome great adversity and have still managed to gain a place at university. All these students come from a background where they have financial difficulties also. For example my challenges were a single teenage mum of three. I had fled domestic violence, I had suffered mental health illnesses and had faced homelessness with my children.
I have read stories of others who found asylum in the UK after fleeing war. Care leavers, sofa surfers, those with long term illness. Single parents and those with no immediate family or support network. This is a few and my no means exhausted list."

Kirsty will do the walks after a full days work. Kirsty adds:
"I'm a mum of four , the youngest only age 5 years and I work 30 hours a week so this will be challenging for me. I will add evidence from strava maps "
"Students use the money to support them during university and it relieves some pressures. I used it for travel, childcare and books. Others have used it for compulsory equipment for their course. Computers for their academic work, the essentials such as food."
Kirsty says that an added benefit is the mentorship and life long support and encouragement that the foundation provides for it's winners.
Kirsty is using her 50 walks to fundraise for the charity you can find her fundraising page here https://uk.virginmoneygiving.com/fundraiser-display/showROFundraiserPage?userUrl=KirstyYoung17&pageUrl=1
