Bridlington Seek Points with Two Back to Back Home Games

The seasiders will welcome Grantham Town to the Hudgell Solicitor Stadium on Saturday and under 12's get free entry.

Mike Thompson will be looking for a response from his side after they suffered a defeat on the road to Stocksbridge Park Steels. Though they showed promise in the first half, Bridlington Town weren’t able to find the back of the net before conceding three in a lacklustre second half.

The Stocksbridge game came after a worrying showing against Beverley Town in the East Riding Senior Cup, which saw them 3-1 down with 15 minutes to go against a side two leagues below. Thankfully, Jake Martindale came off the bench to score his first two goals of the season to send the game to penalties, where Ryan Caulfield netted the winning penalty. The past two results mean that Bridlington Town have only managed to pick up one win in their last five games.

After the Beverley game, Thompson said to Brid Town TV that there would be some players who wouldn’t play for the club again. Since then, it has been confirmed that Harry Webster’s loan with Bottesford Town FC has been made permanent, whilst Will Taylor has also left the club. With Jack Bulless suspended after being dismissed against Stocksbridge as well as captain Jack Griffin being an injury concern after being forced off, the Seasiders may be short of options for Saturday’s game.

Despite the heavy defeat on the road, Bridlington Town remained in 8th position, which most say is a higher league position than expected at the start of the season. Their opponents, on the other hand, sit 18th, occupying the relegation playoff position with 15 points.

They are in this division after finishing bottom of the Northern Premier League by nine points last campaign. Nevertheless, they would likely have had ambitions to go straight back up this season and whilst they have played fewer games than anyone else in the league, it is safe to assume they will be disappointed with their start to life in the NPL East Division.

Grantham’s recent form is also nothing to write home about. They have suffered three defeats in a row without scoring, all at home, against Grimsby Borough, Stocksbridge Park Steels and most recently a 4-0 defeat against Ossett United. This leaves them winless in their last six games, where they have only picked up one point.

Their last victory was a 3-1 away win against Brighouse Town where their top scorer Ashton Hall, who has netted six times this season, bagged a brace - both goals coming from the spot.

The visitors are known this season after a bizarre postponement made stories in national news outlets. Their home match against Worksop Town was forced off when crows had dug up the pitch overnight. The game has now been rearranged and will be Grantham’s next game after travelling to the seaside.

Bridlington start back-to-back home games against Grantham Town and Hebburn Town hoping for strong support at Queensgate. The club are  running their "Under 12s Go Free offer" for Saturday's game against Grantham Town.
